  4. Country Description:  These islands are British dependencies and are
  5. moderately developed.  Tourist facilities are widely available.
  6.  
  7. Entry Information:  For tourist stays of up to three months, U.S. citizens
  8. need proof of U.S. citizenship, photo identification, an onward/return
  9. ticket, and proof of sufficient funds.  For further information concerning
  10. entry requirements for the islands of the British West Indies, travelers may
  11. contact the Embassy of the United Kingdom, 3100 Massachusetts Avenue N.W.,
  12. Washington, D.C. 20008, tel: (202) 462-1340, or the nearest British
  13. consulate in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York or San
  14. Francisco.

  16. Medical Facilities:  Medical care is generally good, but may not meet U.S.
  17. standards.  Doctors and hospitals often expect immediate cash payment for
  18. health services.  U.S. medical insurance is not always valid outside the
  19. United States.  In some cases, supplementary medical insurance which
  20. includes specific overseas coverage is considered useful.  For additional
  21. health information, travelers can contact the Centers for Disease Control's
  22. international travelers hotline at (404) 332-4559.

  24. Crime Information:  Petty street crime occurs.  Valuables left unattended on
  25. beaches are subject to theft.

  27. The loss or theft of a U.S. passport overseas should be reported to the
  28. local police and the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.  A birth certificate
  29. and/or driver's license generally cannot be replaced outside of the United
  30. States.  U.S. citizens can refer to the Department of State's pamphlet "A
  31. Safe Trip Abroad" which provides useful information on guarding valuables
  32. and protecting personal security while traveling abroad.  Both this pamphlet
  33. and "Tips for Travelers to the Caribbean" are available from the
  34. Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington
  35. D.C. 20402.

  37. Drug Penalties:  U.S. citizens are subject to the laws of the country in
  38. which they are traveling.  Penalties for possession, use and trafficking in
  39. illegal drugs are strict, and convicted offenders can expect lengthy jail
  40. sentences and fines.

  42. Civil Aviation Oversight:  In June 1992, the U.S. Federal Aviation
  43. Administration assessed the civil aviation authority for Montserrat and
  44. Anguilla as in compliance with international aviation safety oversight
  45. standards for Organization of Eastern Caribbean States' carriers operating
  46. to and from the U.S.  However, during its assessment, the FAA noted that
  47. Organization of Eastern Caribbean States' operations to destinations other
  48. than the U.S. are not provided a similar level of safety oversight.  For
